Winterhouse
“I wonder if every day here will be as interesting as this one,...”
Elizabeth Somers’s aunt Purdy and uncle Burlap have sent her off to the mysterious Winterhouse Hotel, owned by the eccentric Norbridge Falls. When she arrives, Elizabeth discovers the hotel's charms- specifically its massive library. It’s not long until she discovers a magical book of puzzles, one that will unlock the mystery of Norbridge and his ominous family.
As she uncovers Winterhouses secrets, Elizabeth begins to realise that, for better or worse, she is somehow connected to Winterhouse.

The theme of this book includes inner strength and the importance of friendship.
This book is set in a time period perhaps only a little earlier than our own, and takes place mostly within or on the grounds of the Winterhouse Hotel. There is a bit of magic within the world, though it is kept secret from most people.
The characters are likeable, especially the main character, Norbridge, and two other men in the hotel. Elizabeth, like me, has a love for books, and Norbridge is humorous in a mysterious way. I also find it enjoyable to watch them interact. It’s especially interesting near the middle, when Elizabeth knows the other characters have secrets and is trying to solve them. It is also enjoyable to watch Elizabeth and another character her age become better friends and work together to solve the mystery.
This book has very little violence, though some scenes are rather suspenseful.
I enjoyed learning and discovering the truth of Winterhouse alongside the main character while reading, and loved the descriptions of the setting. It would be fun to explore the library of Winterhouse in real life. The plot was interesting, with many twists as the main character learns more about Winterhouse.
People who enjoyed reading Winterhouse may also like Premeditated Myrtle, a book with a mysterious myrtle, or any books in the Greenglass House universe.
