My Own Lightning

“It was as if he’d hit me. The idea that I was head-hearted.”

Several months after the events of Wolf Hollow, the regular routine has returned, but Annabelle Mcbride finds it hard to move forward.

A jolt of change is about to arrive with the coming of a strong storm. In its wake, the search for a missing dog belonging to her brother sets Annabelle on a path that brings her to unfamiliar doorsteps… and face to face with an all-too familiar adversary- Andy Woodberry.

As she grows and blazes her own trail, Annabelle must re-examine her deep truths; about justice, people, and herself, that has once seemed so simple.

The theme of this book is about forgiving others.

This book is the sequel to Wolf Hollow, which began in 1943. It is a work of historical fiction that accurately describes the time period.

The main character is Annabelle Mcbride, who is trying to come to terms with the events of the previous book. This book gives us more insight into her regular, family life, and shows us how much she cares about her family.

This book has mentions of violence, being struck by lightning, and dog fights.

This book showed Annabelle gradually learning to forgive Andy Woodberry, despite his actions in the first book. His actions seemed hard to forgive, as he helped another character harm Annabelle’s brother. I found the idea of them being friends strange at times, as Annabelle had good reason to despise him. It made it difficult for me  to understand her actions, and it took longer for me to forgive him than she did. Despite this, I enjoyed seeing them work together and slowly become friends. I also enjoyed the new characters that were introduced, as I found it easy to relate with their wish to keep out of the spotlight and not draw attention to themselves.

This book kept me reading, waiting to discover the outcome of the character’s actions and plot twists. I found this book to be just as impactful as the first, and I definitely recommend reading it.

People who enjoyed reading My Own Lightning may also enjoy The Revenge of Magic. The first book in this series is Wolf Hollow- or buy it here.
