The Revenge of Magic

“I’m going to learn magic, no matter what it takes.”

13 years ago, alongside the bones of dragons, books of magic were discovered in sites across the world. Each book contained spells from specific types of magic. Those born on that ‘Discovery Day’ had the power to use that magic.

13 years later, Fort Fitzgerald’s father is lost when a giant creature bursts through the earth at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. Afterward, Fort is devastated- until, six months later, he gains an opportunity for revenge when Dr. Opps invites him to a school to learn magic from those books.

Since his father’s disappearance, Fort’s life has been difficult. However, when he arrives at the school he learns that life there is no easier. The school is full of secrets, and he hardly knows where to start in figuring them out. To make matters worse, if Fort doesn’t find out the secrets of Oppenheimer School, more attacks will come…

And nothing will be able to stop them.

The Revenge of Magic: Book 1

James Riley

Aladdin

400 Pages

The theme of this book involves revenge and justice.

This book is set in modern day, where magic has just recently been discovered and hidden away by the government. It mostly takes place in the Oppenheimer School, a facility where children born on ‘Discovery Day’ are taught to use the magic within the books.

The main character has strong motives for his actions, and is also well-written and developed. However, he seems to act older than his age by the way he reacts to certain situations. For example, his determination to take revenge on the creatures that attacked his father is not something many kids that age would consider. Aside from this, the protagonist and other characters are well-structured and written.

This book contains violence and descriptions of illnesses.

This book has a unique take on magic, shying away from the typical magical stereotypes regarding magic. Usually, when it comes to magic books, they either work more-or-less like a regular textbook or are foretelling the future. The plot is also creative, bringing the reader alongside the characters as they discover new secrets and continue their adventure. As they go on, they will encounter many twists and turns, and the occasional shocking secret.
